Why did Slack decide to change their ticker from SK to WORK?

I don’t know and can’t find a great answer on-line, but my simple guess is:

  • “WORK” was soft held for another potential IPO or company. NYSE and Nasdaq often save certain ticker symbols for potential listings.
  • NYSE told Slack they could probably get it, but needed/wanted a formal approval to give it to them.
  • Slack then registered for SK temporarily, and as soon as NYSE get them approval, they switched.

This was always planned, it just took an extra step due to some sort of hold or other temporary issue on WORK.

There is 0% chance Slack changed its mind on its ticker symbol after filing its initial S-1 🙂
