So Bloomberg has the latest financials and data on OpenAI and it’s pretty interesting — and a tale of two worlds. One where growth is beyond jaw dropping. But also where profitability is almost out at infinity.
Bloomberg reports:
- Open AI did $3.7 Billion in revenue last year, plans for $12.7 Billion this year and $29.4 billion next year
- But doesn’t expect to be cash-flow positive until 2029 at $125 Billion in revenue; and
- OpenAI is in talks to raise a round at a $300 Billion valuation from Softbank
And The Information’s break-down here:
We mostly knew this. Yes, OpenAI and others are massively subsidizing the costs of AI. It’s almost too cheap for what we get. And even the Free editions of ChatGPT, Claude, etc. are amazing.
And yet, the growth seems to justify it.
From ~$30m in revenue in 2021 to $29.4 Billion would be beyond one for the ages.
