Dear SaaStr: I Just Got My First SaaS Job 6 Months Ago and Now I Want to Quit. How Do I Tell My Boss?

Almost everyone quits these days without caring about the company:

  • Zero notice. Instead, give 30 days if you can.
  • No help finding a replacement. Instead, if you know someone else for the role, make the intro.
  • No transition memo. Instead, write up everything you know, for real. So someone stepping into your role can get up to speed, for real, in a day.
  • No getting the house in order before you leave.  Instead, ask yourself how you’d want someone in your role to leave if you were the manager. And go do that.

“I’m Outta Here” is the new, TikTok-fueled way to leave.

Make that’s OK.  Maybe you owe the company nothing.  But it won’t leave you in good standing with everyone you worked with there.  It’s so, so little work to leave on good terms.

Just do the above 4 “Insteads” — and you will leave on good-to-great terms. This almost always has benefits down the road.
