For you – maybe.
It’s not your chronological age I’m concerned about. It’s that you are asking the question. And it’s a good question.
The more experienced you get, the easier it gets in SaaS and software. You know the playbook. You know how to recruit a better team. You know how to sell, and build, and test, and evangelize.
But … you also know the downsides so much better too. You understand risks better. You understand the odds. You understand the headaches that come with people management. You understand you’re just one bad release, one lost huge customer, one step away … from near-certain death … for a long, long time. And you have baggage.
Being a founder is so, so, so hard. It’s so rewarding. But so, so hard.
If you are 20, or 40, or 80 … and think you are too old. I suspect maybe you are.
If you’re not sure … just take your time. And see if you can recruit an amazing team this time. Because now you know how to do this. If you can, and you feel re-energized with this veteran team … then I say … Go For It.
