I don’t know for sure, but one way at a higher level to think about it is that a “Fat” startup in ’15 that will easily burn $800K+ a month.
Ex-Facebook, Google, etc. engineers are expensive. Get together 20 of them, a small marketing team, and all the rest … with little or no revenue … and pretty quickly, you are losing $800,000 a month (or whatever other pretty high number in an absolute sense). Large, rock-star, Bay Area teams aren’t cheap.
So …
$30m is just a decent amount of runway for a pre-revenue start-up burning $800k a month.
