As an investor, if you could ask founders only one question before making a funding decision, what would it be?
“What does the business look like at $100m in ARR?”
Because I can figure out the rest.
- I can figure out if the founder is amazing. Without asking.
- I can figure out if the space is interesting. Without asking.
- I can figure out if the traction is real or illusory. Without asking.
What I can’t figure out is how some tiny little startup will get to $100m (I can’t see the future), and if the founders really are trying to build something huge.
A clear, thoughtful, direct answer here pretty much gets me to Yes.
If they stumble.
It’s basically always No.
