3x is sort of a magic number for a start-up that is doing OK, maybe could raise more money … but that no one thinks will be a unicorn.
A $52m sale on $12m invested could net the investors ~3x. So they’re cool with it (because it’s not a winner for them) … and if founders are good with … it’s a done deal.
