The most successful entrepreneur and investor in our industry contacted our startup, but he has already invested in a competitor so what does he want?

Nothing bad, not really, and maybe something good, eventually.

Get to know your competitors. It’s not super important on any given day, but it is worth it in the long run. At a minimum, it can diffuse tensions later. Maybe even somehow later, you’ll combine forces. Maybe later, you’ll fight patent trolls together. Who knows.

Just don’t share anything super competitive (of course).

But share anything you can find on a Google search, anyway. This will build trust.
