A fair way is to prove you can add material, senior-level value beyond a CFO.
A start-up doesn’t need a CFO, at the earliest, until $4-$5m ARR. And that’s if you are growing quickly. Otherwise, you can outsource it, or at least, hire a controller.
You aren’t worth 8% as a CFO. Sorry. You aren’t even worth 1% as a CFO today.
But you may be worth more. As Chief Product Officer. Chief Technology Officer. VP of Sales. VP of Growth Hacking. Something.
Just not as a money dude.
