I think the optimal age is:

  • “Old” enough to have either (x) domain expertise in what you’re doing and/or (y) to be able to recruit an amazing management team; and
  • “Young” enough to still have the incredible amount of energy, commitment, and lack of negativity necessary to take a 7-10 journey to success.

Energy without expertise and the ability to recruit a team doesn’t really work optimally well in SaaS, at least not in enterprise SaaS.  Knowing the space cold and having a great network … but knowing why the odds are too heavily stacked against you (as they always are) doesn’t work, either.

You could be 30 and too old.  And you could be 60 and be plenty young.
