At what point should a SaaS company hire their first salesforce admin? What are the consequences of delaying this hire?
Let me flip the question around a bit. You should really be asking when should I hire a director/manager of sales operations. She can thing figure out the answer to the salesforce admin question.
I think what we’ve all learned over the past few SaaS generations is to (x) specialize earlier and (y) get more administrative help earlier.
Even with 4 sales reps, if you add a director of sales ops and as a result those 4 reps can sell 20% more … you’ve paid for the hire.
I’d suggest by reps 6–7 at the latest, you want a dedicated “sales operations” hire. He or she can probably be your salesforce admin for a little while if she’s done it before.
